Transforming Government since 2001
The Vietnamese government’s official website went online for the first time on Tuesday, providing valuable information on government policies and activities in the country’s effort towards e-government.

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai inaugurated the sites www.vietnam.gov.vn and www.chinhphu.vn at a ceremony Tuesday afternoon in Hanoi.

The websites will promote dialogue between the government and Vietnamese people living in the country and abroad, besides contributing to global knowledge via the Internet and enabling international community to better understand Vietnam, Khai said at the ceremony.

Readers can access information on incumbent and former government members, the state budget, legal documents in chronological order, national targets, and key projects as well as updated news on government activities and meetings.

Minister and chairman of the Government Office, Doan Manh Giao stressed at the ceremony that the website would serve as an important information channel aiming at online government services and interaction between the government and its citizens and businesses as part of the implementation of public administration reform.

“The launch of the website marks a milestone in government efforts towards administrative reform through building an electronic government”, Giao said.

With the English-version yet to come, the website forms a triumvirate of “political” websites comprising Vietnam’s unicameral legislature – the National Assembly website and the country’s sole party – the Communist Party of Vietnam website.
