The city of Rabat is taking steps to enhance security and become a smart city with the launch of a new AI-powered urban surveillance project.
“Rabat Region Development,” the company spearheading the initiative, has begun deploying an advanced system that includes the installation of smart cameras throughout the capital.
The project, valued at over 100 million dirhams, was awarded to two companies specializing in security and technology. It aims to improve public safety and combat crime by utilizing cutting-edge AI technologies.
The smart cameras will feature facial recognition and automatic license plate reading capabilities, allowing for more effective crime prevention and response. The system is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025.
The project also includes the construction of two central control centers to manage the system. These centers will operate according to international security and data protection standards. A wide network of smart cameras, including long-range models, will be deployed across the city as part of the initiative.
