eGovernment Forschung seit 2001 | eGovernment Research since 2001
Since August 2010, the section of the Estonian State portal 'Eesti.ee' aimed at companies has been updated and it is being translated into English to promote cross-border business and public services to the benefit of European companies.

Eesti.ee is the national eGovernment portal. The section for companies works as a Point of Single Contact that enables service providers operating all over Europe to solve the formalities needed for starting or continuing their business activities in the European Union (EU).

The revamped environment will make it more convenient for European companies to find the most complete and exhaustive information on starting and making business in Estonia and to use relevant eServices, in a single place. Various eServices will be made available in their English translation in the coming months.

"The content of the Estonian State portal for economic operators, in particular the translated information is especially important now that the downturn has been reversed and that European companies are looking for business opportunities in Estonia. In the very near future, EU citizens too will be able to use Estonian eServices." said Aarne Seppel, the leader of Eesti.ee.

As far as business-related matters are concerned, people expressed particular interest for accounting and reporting procedures, as well as for the specific requirements of related activities. The foreign country from which the most questions originate is Lithuania.

The translation of the portal content into English, moreover, aims to foster cross-border cooperation through the STORK (Secure IdenTity acrOss BoRders LinKed) project, which creates opportunities for European citizens to use the eServices of other European countries.

During this year [2010] Estonia will pass a law - the Code of Economic Activities Act - which will make is easier for licensed companies registered in Estonia to provide eServices to all European citizens.

Eesti.ee is visited by nearly one-third of the Estonian population, that is, approx. 416 000 people.
