The Estonian eGovernment Academy experts are compiling a handbook for implementing eGovenrment in Haiti, writes EPL Online/LETA.

Member of the management of the eGovernment Academy Ivar Tallo stated that it is a mistake to think as if it would be too early for Haiti to deal with constructing its eGovernment in its current phase of development.

“Nowadays, the development of eGovernment is an indelible part of each country’s development and the faster the information and communications technology is adopted, the more efficient and more transparent the State administration becomes,” he explained.

Tallo said that Haiti has shown good preparedness for implementing e-solutions. While seven years ago, only 1.9% of residents of Haiti used the internet, today there are more than ten% of users.

Haiti is particularly interested in Estonia’s experience in developing ID cards and the citizens’ portal X-tee as well as in geographic information system, the legislative framework supporting the information society and the use of ICT in education.
