Minister of social affairs of Estonia Hanno Pevkur signed the decree, allocating 16.7 million kroons to developing and administering the Estonian e-health information system, writes the National Broadcasting/LETA.

Pevkur stated that the information system needs to be developed so that it would comply with the high security standards.

"A number of establishments providing health care services have already been issued the necessary data protection licences and several of them have also acceded to the system already," commented the minister, emphasising that all other service providers need to catch up with them soon.

This year Estonia is planning to carry out comprehensive tests of the e-health information system, completing the interfaces and improving the system. Training sessions that are necessary for using the system will also continue.

The objective of the e-health system is to offer IT-based means for prevention, diagnosing, treatment and monitoring of diseases and maintaining health and forming the lifestyle. The Estonian e-health project includes the sub-projects of digital health records and health images, digital prescriptions and digital administration of appointments.
