The CZ.NIC Association which runs and maintains the Czech national domain, conducted this survey as part of the Governments enabled with IPv6 (GEN6) European project, focusing on the adoption of IPv6. According to current data from the Czech Republic, 48 % of websites of all national government bodies and 26 % of towns and municipalities support the new protocol. IPv6 support is however lacking on the side of Czech internet service providers.
The survey analysed 2 332 websites in eight EU countries (Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain) and Turkey. The results show that among these countries, the Czech Republic is best prepared for the adoption of IPv6.
“The Czech Government committed to the implementation of IPv6 in 2009 by adopting a government resolution ordering ministers and heads of central administration authorities to ensure access of their offices to publicly available websites and web services via the new protocol. Even though many authorities have not taken this obligation very seriously so far, their rate of IPv6 adoption is still about three times higher than in the rest of the .CZ domain,” said the Executive Director of the CZ.NIC Association Ondřej Filip.
According to a survey by the IPv6 Observatory based on the 500 most visited sites, the Czech Republic is the European leader in IPv6 adoption with 13.4 %, but support of the new protocol remains lacking on the side of internet service providers. This is confirmed by a popular search engine’s statistics, according to which only 1.59 % of Czech users connect via IPv6.
