During May 2011, some 3 093 118 messages were sent to data boxes in the Czech Republic, the highest monthly figure since the service began in November 2009.

The record figure confirms that data boxes, which serve as a secure repository of official electronic communications with the public authorities, are increasingly popular. Over the past 12 months, usage has increased by 35 %.

The May statistics also indicate that users have become accustomed to the data box system and do not have problems with its operation. There is a delivery success login rate of 97 %, which means that 97 messages out of 100 are read by the recipient within 10 days of delivery.

The week of 2-8 May 2011 saw the highest number of data box messages in any one week at that point, namely 712 722. Another record set in May concerned the number of data box messages sent by legal professionals. They sent 249 462 messages, although many of these were mandatory, unlike the data box messages of the public authorities. Another very active group are bailiffs, who over the last 12 months have sent more than 10.5 million messages.

Background Information:

Data boxes are designed to store electronic communications of citizens and companies with the state, of citizens with companies, and between different public authorities. Sending data box messages is free of charge to users, and the cost of sending data messages by public authorities is covered by the state budget. The data box system is managed by the Ministry of the Interior (Ministerstvo Vnitra, in Czech) and operated by Czech Post (Česká pošta, in Czech).

Each Data Box is password protected and accessible only with a certified eSignature. The Data Boxes Information System is fast (the message data is delivered almost immediately), reliable (the data cannot be lost) and simple to use, while offering the advantage of authenticating the sender and the receiver.
