Orange Business to design, build and run new end-to-end platform, integrating AI and data analytics into existing KAFD digital infrastructure in Saudi Arabia

Orange Business has inked a transformative deal with the King Abdullah Financial District Development & Management Company (KAFD DMC) to propel Riyadh’s prestigious business district, the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), into the era of smart urban development. This strategic partnership aims to create a cutting-edge Smart City Platform that will seamlessly integrate and connect existing digital technologies while harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics.

KAFD: A hub for sustainability and innovation

Renowned as one of the world’s most sustainable business districts, KAFD is on a mission to enhance the quality of urban life for businesses, residents, and visitors. This vision aligns with Saudi Vision 2030’s Quality of Life Program and its overarching objective of improving the livability and competitiveness of cities in the Kingdom.

Under the terms of this visionary agreement, Orange Business will provide a comprehensive suite of services to KAFD. Notably, the Orange Smart City Platform will be deployed, celebrated for its compatibility with a wide range of systems and technologies. The platform encompasses essential elements such as big data management, descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive data analytics, and robust governance.

The power of AI-driven solutions

Orange Business will also leverage the capabilities of AI to unlock transformative use cases. These include geolocation-based sentiment analysis of social media, the aggregation and sharing of contextual data in vital domains like water supply and traffic management, and the optimisation of energy consumption in commercial office buildings. By integrating a digital twin with the Smart City Platform, architects and engineers will gain real-time insights, enabling them to optimise building designs.

Visionary leadership

Gautam Sashittal, CEO of King Abdullah Financial District Development and Management Company (KAFD DMC), expressed the strategic importance of this partnership. “The increasing wave of urbanisation across the world is set to uncover a US $517 billion market for smart city solutions with an annual growth rate of 25 percent,” he remarked. “This fact plays into KAFD’s objectives of building a future-proof and business-friendly hub in Riyadh. A major step in that direction, our partnership with Orange Business will further strengthen our drive to become a global pioneer in smart urban development.”

Sahem Azzam, Senior Vice President Middle East, Africa, and Turkey at Orange Business, echoed this enthusiasm, emphasizing the company’s commitment to serving as a trusted digital partner in this flagship project. Azzam noted that the Smart City Platform represents the next evolution of smart cities, what Orange Business refers to as the “cognitive city.” He highlighted the critical role of data collection and AI-driven analytics in providing insights, creating new use cases, generating revenue streams, and offering innovative services while optimising city operations.

Azzam further emphasised the regional impact of Orange Business’s involvement, with specialised teams situated within the Kingdom poised to contribute to innovative urban digital design. This collaboration is expected to make a significant contribution to the Saudi Vision 2030 economic diversification and transformation plan.
