The Saudi e-health conference 2012 will start Sunday under the aegis of Intelligence Chief Prince Muqrin at the King Faisal Conference Hall in Riyadh.

King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences and the Saudi Association for Health Informatics with the support of several other partners are sponsoring the three-day conference.

The purpose of the e-health event is to bring together both health care providers and information technologists to empower the advancements in the delivery, quality and continuity of health care. The conference will provide many opportunities for interaction and it will also promote the national electronic health initiative launched by the Ministry of Health.

An exhibition will run parallel to the conference to showcase hospital information systems, picture archiving and communications systems (PACS), enterprise resource planning (ERP) for health care, emerging technologies in health care, telemedicine and medical e-learning.

The chief of the Saudi Association for Health Informatics and dean of the College of Public Health and Health Informatics, Majid Al-Tuwaijri, said the conference aims to raise awareness about health informatics and the important role it plays in enhancing the quality of health care services.

“The conference is a unique platform for Cerner Middle East to discuss the importance of health care information systems to enhance the Kingdom’s health care landscape,” Vice President and General Manager of Cerner Middle East Greg White said yesterday.

During the event, Cerner will demonstrate leading-edge technologies for surgery and anesthesia, electronic medical recording, laboratories and pharmacies.

White, whose company is one of the conference’s sponsors, is slated to talk about the latest technologies in health care, Cerner’s expansion in the region and his plans for 2012 and beyond.

“The regional e-health landscape has been witnessing significant developments in recent times and GCC nations have increased investments in health care technology,” White said.
