Jeddah Governorate Portal came in second in the best e-content, while the e-Government Program (Yesser) of Saudi Arabia came first In the best e-project category for its governmental integrated channel and in e-economy category, the payment system in Saudi Arabia (Sadad) came first in addition to SaudiEDI (Saudi Electronic Data Interchange) project which won award of appreciation.
Eng. Ali Bin Saleh Al-Soma, General Manager of e-Government program (Yesser) stated that the Kingdom's achievements reflect the efforts exerted by various government sectors in achieving the leadership's desire in the provision of government services more easily for individuals and the business sector, pointing out that the these awards come in crowning the effort of the winning agencies in the transition to electronic government transactions, and make them as models in the Kingdom and in the Gulf. He added that the winning projects represent a sample of pilot projects in the Kingdom which deserve the Gulf award and this will be reflected through the results of the second edition of this award.
At the conclusion of the conference, Dr. Salim Al-Ruzaiqi. CEO of the Information Technology Authority (ITA) in Sultanate of Oman has read out the final recommendations of the conference.
The conference has recommended adopting the best international practices to reach the integrated e-government level selecting programmes that may be shared by the GCC countries to create model projects for implementing the integrated e-government approach and creating comprehensive society service networks, especially in the impoverished areas to enable individuals to benefit from the e-government services.
The conference stressed the importance of taking necessary measures and promulgating laws that secure integrating IT & C in all the functions and operations undertaken by public and private sector establishments as well as civil society organizations. It also encouraged providing these organizations and individuals with incentives to encourage them to benefit from the e-government services and the importance of employing new technologies to improve different sectors of society, especially people with special needs.
The conference also discussed encouraging co-operation with Gulf universities to enhance research and development to create strategic links among the e-government projects and economic developments. Developing open-end software and indicators that assess the contribution of IT in the GDP also came for discussion.
The conference stressed on enhancing investment in human resources in digital society fields by establishing partnerships with higher education institutions and providing individuals and public and private sector organizations with skills that ensure their integration with digital society.
