The mayoral office of the Eastern Province will launch a project to adopt e-governance by the end of the year, said Dhaifallah Al-Otaiby, mayor of the Eastern Province, recently.

Addressing a function organized by the Council of Business Youth in the Eastern Province in Dammam, Al-Otaiby said, “My office also intends to introduce a computerized field monitoring system. The work on the project is already underway.”

The mayor also disclosed that his office was working over the past 18 months on a strategic plan with 18 specific objectives and 61 initiatives to be implemented in the next five years with the aim of serving the society in a faster and more efficient manner. The office also has been taking necessary steps to reduce bureaucratic delay particularly when dealing with important issues.

He called on businessmen to support the mayor’s office in its efforts to modernize and improve its services. “All our services are aimed at serving the society better,” he said.

He added that 50 new investment opportunities were available for investors at his office. “Details on the projects are posted on the website of the Asharqia Chambers of Commerce and Industry and would be published in the local media apart from displaying on notice boards in the mayor’s office,” he said, adding that many of the projects did not demand huge investments.

While the mayor’s office took up the responsibility of laying the infrastructure for tourism projects, including preparing beach locations and constructing roads and parks, investors should take the initiative for the particular kind of projects they want to develop.

“However, my office doesn’t refuse to be a partner with private investors in the development of any project aimed at serving society,” the official affirmed.

He also said that his office collaborated with the General Commission for Tourism and Antiquities and various other tourism promotion committees.

He also referred to the ongoing negotiations between the ports authority and the Border Guards to construct two ports in Dammam and Alkhobar.

He also welcomed the idea of setting up an authority for the development of the Eastern Province similar to the authorities for the development of Riyadh and Makkah.
