Saudi Arabia is planning to launch its ultimate e-government project 'Yusr', by the end of 2010 as users will be able to deal electronically with all their governmental operations and get things done using only their PCs.

"This December, we will launch five major projects; of which the national retirement and the General Organisation of Social Insurance (GOSI) is the most important operation to be completed", an official source in the electronic operation committee in King Abdul-Aziz technology city said.

Homoud Al-Fayez the chair of the committee indicated that only 23 % is offering electronic facilities at the present and that three billion Saudi Riyals ($800 million) is granted by the Saudi government to meet the completion of the electronic government and ending the era of bureaucracy.

Statistics show that 80% of the Saudi population is under the age of 25, and this resulted in having more technology users in the Kingdom. Moreover, the attraction of the Saudi stock market has put pressure on more people to learn how to deal with the cyber world of the Internet.

Four years ago, the General Organisation of Social Insurance (GOSI) is has started updating its system and has been going totally electronically, by using its new document management system from Laserfiche the American company based in Long Beach, California.

Laserfiche has implemented in all 21 branches with standard and one enterprise version for headquarter in Riyadh. Replication of images and date from all branches make GOSI centralize at the end of the day to HQ for Backup and disaster Recovery, GOSI ERP Plus workflow System is fully integrated with Laserfiche through Web Service. In archiving, Laserfiche provides document scanning, barcode reorganization and creation of briefcase file to send to HQ at the end of each day.
