As part of the promise to make Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) a major foreign exchange earning industry and also speed the implementation of the various components of the ongoing national e-government Project, government has commenced work on an $8.8 million Information Communication Technology (ICT) hub for the country.

The Communication Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah performed the ground breaking ceremony in Accra yesterday.

The $8.8 million facility labeled the Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) centre when completed in September, 2014 as scheduled would provide support services for export oriented small and medium ICT businesses.

The project was one of the many initiatives being implemented by government under the e-Ghana project for knowledge-based economy and job creation in ICT.

The BPO Centre would mitigate the lack of a “Grade A” office space and infrastructure that had been the bottleneck for the growth and development of the ICT technology-entrepreneurship.

The facility would also provide a platform for investors to outsource to other local and international entrepreneurs.

About 347 kilometers of Fiber optic had been laid from Ho to Bawku to facilitate access to internet service as part of efforts to improve the digital divide.
