ICT has played a role in the Ghana’s Government’s development projects to improve the quality of health care in the country.

The Minister of Health, Sherry Ayittey, said in Accra that the ministry had undertaken development projects at the three leading teaching hospitals (Korle-bu, Komfo Anokye and Tamale) in the country.

As part of the Ministry’s development programme, an introduction to electronic health care service had been made possible at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, after a fibre optic cable was laid. The facility had not only made the use of teleconferencing and other IT-related applications accessible, but also assisted in keeping electronic database of patients, facilitated the transmission of medical reports and other relevant documents to appropriate quarters.

Hospital infrastructures and equipment had also been updated, she said.
