The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has started piloting instant biometric ID cards to eliminate difficulties in ID card management and help identify authentic subscribers at health care facilities.

The biometric ID cards is also aimed at preventing the duplication of records and ensure effective verification system at the point of healthcare service delivery.

This forms part of plans by the Authority to ensure effectiveness in its delivery of service and guarantee satisfaction of subscribers.

Speaking at the official launch of the Authority’s 10th Anniversary celebration on Thursday, the Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Sylvester Mensah said the piloting had begun at a time when many had expressed concern over the feasibility of the biometric system.
