About 150 officials from Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Registrar-General's Department (RGD) have undergone a week's Information Technology training programme.

This was to equip them with requisite skills to effectively utilise electronic systems being deployed under the e-Governance Project.

So far about 842 officials from the two institutions have been trained in Basic, Intermediate and Advance IT skills under the project.

Under the project, government is partnering Ghana Community Network Services Limited (GCNet) in a public private sector partnership (PPP) arrangement to develop an automated tax system for the Domestic Tax Revenue Division of GRA.

The system would allow for the electronic assessment of tax, filing of tax returns and payments for income, corporate and other related domestic tax payments.

Another beneficiary agency under the project is the RGD for an electronic company registration, tax identification numbering system and filing of corporate returns that interfaces with other agencies like the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and National Identification Authority (NIA) for identification verification.

Addressing the closing session, Mr. George Blankson, GRA Commissioner-General, congratulated the trainees for embracing the opportunity to acquire new IT skills and urged them to effectively use the skills acquired for the successful implementation of the project.

Present were Professor Agyeman Badu, Rector of GIMPA, Professor Clement Somuah of GIMPA, Mr Paul Kwakyi, GRA Project Manager and officials of GCNet.
