Secretary for Administration and Justice, Florinda da Rosa Silva Chan, said that the expected results of the project include a domain model for Macao's e-government and training of government employees in the relevant techniques. A total of 44 government departments have been urged to cooperate in the building of the e-government project so as to finish the construction work in their respective sections in two years of time.
Chan said in a recent mobilization meeting that the project will be a priority on the SAR government's work agenda in the nexttwo years.
"As the SAR government is to celebrate the fifth founding anniversary by the year end, it shows a far-reaching sight and a strong commitment in the self-building through the e-government project," said Chan.
Last year, a contract worth more than 6.6 million patacas (825,000 US dollars) regarding e-government infrastructure integration solution was granted to a team of network solutions providers fromthe International Institute for Software Technology of the United Nations University, the University of Macao and the Macao Institute of Computer and System Engineering. The project has beenguaranteed to be funded by the government further on.
The providers will undertake the implementation and integrationof electronic government applications under the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau. They will design and develop a government portal, which will, within one to two years, gradually expand to serve over 8,000 public servants across the different government departments, and finally to become accessibleto all Macao citizens.
The government portal will be supported by the software applications, such as work flow, document imaging and management system, allowing users to enjoy a variety of services and complementing other services, such as the Smart ID card and the electronic certification, to carry and deliver to the public highly secure and reliable services. Through the deployment of these software applications, the government expects to streamline its internal processes, ultimately to improve its overall efficiency.
Tomasz Janowski, project manager at the International Institutefor Software Technology of the United Nations University said thatas the development of e-commerce and e-government is motivated in Macao, the IT development especially in information security will gain its momentum, and therefore beneficial for the economy and the society as a whole.
