Frederico Ma Chi Ngai, president of Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) reveals upcoming smart city projects to Macau News Agency (MNA)
Frederico Ma Chi Ngai, president of the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) has told Macau News Agency (MNA) that one of the planned projects involves an application for which the public would be able to track the process of government decisions, such as tenders, through an application.
As the public consultation period for the Smart City plan draws to a close, there are several initiatives planned involving the government, traffic monitoring, public education and healthcare.
For example, if a tender process involves more than one agency, the public will be able to track the entire process through an online application developed by Alibaba to track the government’s progress and to see how each department performs.
“We want to make the government more transparent,” Mr. Ma explains.
Traffic, which has attracted public criticism, will be one of the main sectors being transformed, according to Mr. Ma.
In an earlier press briefing, it was revealed that there is a project to fit lamp posts with sensors to monitor traffic data, and that the first batch of projects will be hopefully active at the end of 2018 to early 2019.
Another priority, according to Mr. Ma, is how to educate the public on the benefits of implementing smart city technologies.
To that end, Mr. Ma hopes that a series of campaigns could help with public education, especially among the older generation.
Healthcare is another major part of the initial plan, with Mr. Ma saying that there was a plan to collaborate with Kiang Wu Hospital to study the use of smart city technologies to improve personal care.
For example, he says that diabetic patients should be able to monitor their condition and blood sugar levels through the use of big data.
The public consultation for the smart city plan ends on June 30.
