The demand for Russian communication and information technologies is growing worldwide. At the international telecommunications exposition Telecom World-2011, held in Geneva, Switzerland, between the 24 and the 27 October, Russian manufacturers did not only got a rave reception from the audience, but signed some hefty contracts.

The Russian part of the exposition featured technologies that allow to access media content of any kind. Using these gadgets, one can make phone calls, get pictures from TV broadcasting and pay bills. This multi-functional device has no analogues in the world, says spokesperson for the Ministry of Communications Elena Lashkina.

"As a part of the display Russian manufacturers have presented innovative developments. These include the real-time audiovisual information system RAVIS, the E-government project, the QWERTY media center, and Internet broadcasting technologies. The main goal of the Russian exposition in Geneva is to exhibit modern information technologies, which will soon become accessible to a wider audience."

Several countries, primarily those lacking serious financial resources, have grown interested in the E-government project. According to Minister of Communications Igor Shegolev, a deal is possible, but will depend on the price tag. This country has spent almost 60 million dollars to create the E-government, which is considerably less than other countries have spent.

“We are able to solve various tasks by minor means. The E-government we have created is cheaper and more efficient”, he says. For instance, he points out, Estonia has spent one and a half billion dollars on the same project, while Singapore - almost 15 billion over 10 years.

Foreign contractors have also expressed interest in Russian satellites showcased in Geneva. From now on a British satellite provider rendering services in the Middle East will be using the Russian satellite Express-A-M-44 for TV and radio-broadcasting and also for communications and broad-band Internet.

A long-term contract with the British company to this end was signed at the exhibition.

“We are confident that it will not be the last one. There are two more bids”, said the satellite developers.

On top of that, Russia’s Rostelecom and Belorussia’s Beltelecom have agreed to create a reliable communication link connecting Moscow and Frankfurt that will run across Russia, Belorussia, Poland and Germany.
