The first question of the President of Russia was related to the result of visiting of some objects in Petrozavodsk where information technologies are used widely. In particular, Dmitry Medvedev has visited the Museum of Fine Arts of Karelia, the city court and the State University. «I would like to listen to your suggestions of what is supposed to be done in this sphere, what the problems are in development of information technologies both in Karelia and in the country as a whole,» - the President has told.
Sergey Katanandov has answered that authorities of the republic consider using modern technologies as means of modernization of the society - the government should be opened for citizens, information should be available, and the state services are to be qualitative and modern. According to the Head of Karelia, by the year 2012 70-80% of citizens of the republic will have access to the Internet. Simultaneously, development of e-government systems and the entire regional segment of the Internet will proceed in the region.
Dmitry Medvedev has noted, that the people's desire to use Internet is in direct relationship to opportunities on providing the access to it. «You've got the electronic government developing, the site of authorities works quite effectively; however, it is important now, that one should have an opportunity both to receive information on where to address, and where exactly the document is with which one has addressed to this or that authority, or the ministry, - head of the state has noted. - As a matter of fact, e-government should let the citizen see what is going on with one's application in real-access and real-time mode. As soon as you provide such service, even those who understand nothing in information technologies will use this service, even with the help of his friends or relatives, and young people will use it, too.»
Sergey Katanandov has assured, that the basic stage of informatization of Karelia, as well as introducing administrative rules will be completed no later than in 2009. «Information technologies is our basic resource, - Head of Karelia has told. - In spite of the fact that we have forest and subsoil resource, it is not enough for good life like in the West.» «It is an inexhaustible resource for development of the region,» - the President of Russia has emphasized.
