New companies and business names will soon be able to be registered online following the signing of a $2.5 million contract to set up an Electronic Registry System (eRegistry) yesterday. The project will take 18 months to be completed

Under the eRegistry, the "business processes" of Company Registry, Business Names Registry and Trade Marks Registry will be carried out electronically. The new system will also see the computerisation of other services that are currently done manually. The signing ceremony for the contract for the installation of the Electronic Registry System (eRegistry) was held at the Attorney General's Chambers between the Attorney General's Chambers and NeoQuest Sdn Bhd.

Signing the agreement on the Government's behalf was the Attorney General Dato Seri Paduka Hj Kifrawi bin Dato Paduka Hj Kifli while NeoQuest was represented by its Director, Malai Hj Abdul Hamir bin Hj Malai Mashor. Present to witness the signing ceremony was Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Hj Ahmad bin Hj Abd Rahman.

"We are definitely excited to be part of the e-Government efforts of His Majesty's Government, being able to implement a reliable, secure and convenient system for the public will be the main target of the project," Malai Hj Abdul Hamir said at the signing ceremony.

According to the Attorney General's Chambers, by utilising technology in the registries, searches and filing procedures can be re-engineered to be quicker and more accurate.

It is hoped that the needs and expectations of the public who use the registries regularly will be met and in the best-case scenario, exceeded in terms of convenience, re-liability and ease of use when using the new system. The registries will be relocated to a new building which is currently under construction.

NeoQuest Sdn Bhd is part of Brunei-based Mashor Group's information technology service group, which was established to pursue the growing business opportunities in information technology in Asia and the Middle East.
