The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) yesterday marked a milestone in the development of its e-Government project 'PMONet' with the launching of the PMO Online support facilities and infrastructure. The event was officially launched by Permanent Secretary at the PMO, Pehin Dato Paduka Awg Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah, who is also Chairman of the e-Government Programme Executive Committee. Located at its Enterprise Data Centre (EDC), the Prime Minister's main office at Istana Nurul Iman, the Secretariat Building and its branch at Berakas Transport Pool, will be the first batch of agencies under PMO to make use of the PMO Online Services implemented through the PMONet project. The project, spearheaded by PMO in February 2004, is one of the projects within its e-Government initiatives to e-enable its business processes and services to enhance service delivery to its customers.

The project team consists of PMO members, Syabas Technologies and IBM Malaysia, who have been working around the clock over the past few months to prepare for this roll-out.

Six PMO departments are scheduled to be rolled out by the end of March 2005, while the remaining PMO departments will be deployed over the next six months between April and September 2005.

Prior to the launching, the chief guest presented the winner of the slogan writing competition held last November and December, Awg Ridzuan Hj Ahmad, an Administrative Officer Special Grade at the Prime Minister's Office with his prize.

Later in the afternoon, the PMO Online support facilities and infrastructure were opened for viewing and guests were taken on a guided tour by the technical support team.

Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Department Heads, Senior Officers and Senior Executive Officers from Syabas Technologies and IBM were among the distinguished guests at yesterday's event.
