As Brunei stands on the threshold of implementing e-government, ministries and departments are gearing up to gain knowledge and the know-how to reap benefits from it.

e-Government is a tool for increasing efficiency, transparency and facilitating public sector reform. Apart from training sessions, where public servants gain hands-on experience, several forums are also being organised with experts providing an insight into the many advantages the system has to offer.

Senior government officers at the Prime Minister's Office attended a personalised one-day PMO Online Senior Management Training Session at the PMO Online Training Facility at UBD yesterday.

PMO Online is the e-government platform for the Prime Minister's Office. PMO Online seeks to provide specific e-government solutions to help PMO meet its pressing challenges as well as provide the process, organisational and technology foundation to enhance operation and improve service levels through collaboration among PMO departments.

An integral and important part of the roll out of the new PMO Online system for the Prime Minister's Office is the PMO Online End User Training, which is aimed at ensuring that all users are equipped with the knowledge and confidence in performing work tasks involving the PMO Online system and can effectively use learning materials and experience to adapt to new work environment using ICT tools.

Present were Pehin Dato Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, Dato Haji Abdul Hamid bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Yassin, Pehin Dato Haji Dani bin Hj Ibrahim, Dato Hi Abu Bakar bin Pengiran Seri Indera Pengiran Hj Ismail, Permanent Secretaries at the Prime Minister's Office.

Dato Haji Sulaiman bin Hj Ismail, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, and other senior officers were also present.

The direct participation of these senior officers yesterday came as a tremendous boost to the project as it was a show of the leadership's commitment and willingness towards embracing the PMO Online system.

The PMO Online Senior Management Training session covers the full spectrum of the functionalities of the new system as well as an overview of the new work processes introduced and the relevant policies governing the usage of the system.

The training therefore included areas directly relevant to specific job functions, which are: Using PMO Online for End-Users, Collaborative e-Office Business Processes, Government Intranet Portal Business Processes and PMO Online usage Policies.
