The evolution of the Internet has paved the way to a new era in education delivery method, one that must be taken full advantage of especially with the advent of e-Government initiatives in the country, scheduled to be fully implemented by next year.

The impact that the Internet has brought upon society as a whole opens wide opportunities to distribute education and training afforded by the Internet, and offers challenges as earlier paradigms have already been applied to such a technology. Students now clamour on simple online access to course materials and this results in an urgent move towards a change in the instructional delivery. This was yesterday stated by Centre Director of SEAMEAO VOCTECH Regional Centre Noorhaizamdin Haji Mosbi, during the opening ceremony of a three-week course themed 'Developing Online Multimedia Resources for e-Learning in VTET,' which is attended by some 15 participants from the Asean region.

The event was held at Dewan Teratai, SEAMEO VOCTECH Regional Centre.

Addressing the participants in his opening remarks, the Centre Director outlined the course content envisioned to be a threefold-goal programme, where firstly it aims to provide participants with knowledge and skills required, secondly to guide them in developing materials appropriately, and thirdly to elevate participants' position as recharged and re-energised IT instructors or lecturers in VTET.

He emphasised that despite the innovations and convenience toward e-learning, computers will never eliminate human instructors due to their important role in distinguishing the advantages and limitations.
