A mobile health solution that allows doctors to monitor their patients from anywhere in the country is ready to go live.

DST Group chief executive officer Idris Taher Vasi who spoke to The Brunei Times during the launch of the 2010 TechXpo on Thursday said the Mobile Health Solution was one of the products demonstrated to His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

"We showed him the Mobile Health Solution (through which) a doctor can remotely monitor your health," Idris said, noting vitals that can monitored remotely include blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and increase and decrease in medication.

The solution is on demo at the Ericsson booth within DST's Pavilion.

Medical doctors will select the sensors to monitor their patients depending on the illness.

In turn, the sensors, which utilise the Bluetooth technology, will be paired to a communication device equipped with a 3G sim card enabling it to transmit patient's data.

He added that DST would be providing the service to medical institutions here.

With DST's mobile coverage the service is ready to go, with the sign-up from the medical institutions as the only thing to make the project fully operational.

Idris named Jerudong Park Medical Centre as a potential client with others also in negotiations with DST.

"This (device) can send the information to the server, where the doctors can view from the server side," said an attendant at the DST Pavilion.

"From there the doctors simply type in a URL and log in, then they are able to view all the patient information (required)," he said. "In doing so, this allows the patient to be monitored from home," added the attendant.

The solution aims to reduce healthcare costs, and lower the number of admissions to hospitals. Doctors will also have quick and easy access to patient details.

The portable Mobile Health Solution has been in use for years in other nations like Singapore and in Gulf countries.
