Public Servants in Brunei have been encouraged to get behind the national theme United Towards Achieving 2035 Brunei Vision.

A Government statement issued to mark Civil Service Day said the vision saw Brunei among the top 10 nations in the world within a quarter of a century with a population that was educated, skilled and with a high quality of life.

It is envisioned that the Public Service would play a role in enhancing productivity and realising the goal.

This would involve implementing strategic plans, enhancing productivity and quality as well as services to the public, organisational improvement, and development of human resources.

In efforts to modernise the Public Service, a number of major e-Government projects had successfully been implemented.

The statement said maintaining an excellent Public Service required integrity among officers and staff to manage, administer and implement services that were sincere, efficient, effective, honest and transparent.

It said this required every Public Servant to carry out their duties honestly, responsibly, fairly, with dedication and efficiency that was totally free from elements that could ruin their integrity such as a breach of trust and corruption as well as abuse of power and self-serving attitudes.

This in turn will cause the public to question the Government’s credibility which should be avoided at all costs, the statement said.

A highlight of Civil Service Day this year was the introduction of a Civil Service Excellence Employee Award. Officers wishing to enter needed to demonstrate a responsible approach to their work.
