Brunei can expect further improvement and efficacy in the implementation of e-government initiatives in the country following visits to the Sultanate of Oman and Bahrain where Brunei delegation discussed and shared knowledge as well as experiences in e-governance with the host countries.

Brunei delegation, headed by the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dato Seri Paduka Hj Eusoff Agaki Hj Ismail, who is also the chairman of E-Government Leadership Forum (EGLF), conducted the visit from April 26 until 30, according to a press statement from the e-Government National Centre (EGNC) yesterday.

During the visit the delegation had the opportunity to have a closer look on the Omani Civil Status System; a database system for general registration on births, deaths and marital status, as well as identification cards for citizens and residents of the Oman Sultanate. They also visited the Information Technology Authority (ITA) and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) which coordinates the growth of information communication technology and telecommunications industry as well as e-government in the Omani Sultanate, and observed the latest innovations and advancements in information technology (IT) as well as the e-government initiatives of other countries in the Gulf Co-Operation Council (GCC).

In Bahrain, the delegation sat down with the country’s E-Government Authority (EGA) to discuss issues on strategies to extend cooperations with international organisations such as the United Nations (UN) and public-private partnership which were related to the growth of e-governance in Bahrain.They were also briefed on the strategic approach of integrating ministries and government entities in the implementation of e-Government;procedures and principles in line with Bahrain’s E-government strategic planning and its Vision 2030, among others.

Also included in Brunei’s delegation during the visit was Abdul Mutalib Pehin OKSSDP Hj Mohd Yusof, Deputy permanent secretary at and other senior officers from PMO, EGNC and the Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry (AiTi). (AFS1)
