The Prime Minister's Office yesterday launched an e-Government exhibition in the Belait District to create better understanding among the pubic on the initiatives and development of e-government implementation in the country.

Present to officiate the launch, which took place at the Belait Municipal Hall was the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Awg Abd Mutalib bin POKSSDP Hj Mohd Yusof.

Awg Azhar bin Hj Ahmad, the Acting Director of the National e-Government Centre and Chairman of the event's organising committee in his welcoming remarks said the e-Government exhibition, held for the first time in the district, was a continuation of a similar exhibition that was held in the capital from June 12-14.

He said the roadshow is another effort by the Prime Minister's Office to support the aspirations of His Majesty's Government to present e-Government as the main generator towards providing swift, easy, cost-effective and also efficient services to the customers and public.

The exhibition is also meant to provide an understanding on details about e-Government projects which should not only be seen as an "enablers" in a technical perspective but also as communicators or tools of communication and transaction between the government and public.

Awg Azhar added that the exhibition emphasises the requirement of human resource skills and expertise in the ICT field, which is still lacking in the government and private sectors. The issue is one of the main contributing factors in the success of the e-government initiative as it would be more challenging in future with e-Government projects increasing in number.

Visitors to the exhibition are able to view several booths detailing e-Government projects from 11 government and private agencies, highlighting their respective roles and describing the communication facilities, interaction and transactions between the agencies and the public.

At yesterday's opening event, invited guests comprising department heads, Penghulu Mukims and village heads as well as officials and representatives from the private sector in the Belait District also heard a briefing on e-Government projects delivered by a senior officer from the National e-Government Centre. The briefing was followed by a Q&A session.
