Transforming Government since 2001
Connectivity between the ministries, industry players and consumers was once again stressed as one of the factors that will lead to the successful implementation of the e-government structure.

Speaking to the press during the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) media appreciation night, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Dato Seri Paduka Eusoff Agaki Hj Ismail said that it was important to highlight this aspect because of the role it plays in the e-government initiative.

He also highlighted the role of the media in relaying this message across to the public as well as promoting the concept of e-government and its benefits. Acting Director of the E-government National Centre (EGNC) Azhar Hj Ahmad said that last evening's event was held to mark the Prime Minister's Office's appreciation of local media and bloggers for their support and coverage of the recent developments in the e-government initiative such as the E-government Strategic Plan 2009-2014 and the e-government roadshow.

A roadshow for Belait District is slated for July 4, to raise awareness on the initiative. An e-government exhibition will be held there, similar to the one which was held at The Mall, Gadong recently.

Among those present yesterday were Yang Amat Mulia Pg Anak Khairul Khalil Pg Syed Hj Jaafari, PMO's permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, other senior government officials and members of the media. The E-government Strategic Plan 2009-2014 was launched on May 31. It is based on five key strategic priorities, which have been developed based on the progress made through the e-government initiative so far.

Since the start of the e-government initiative in 2000, more than 100 projects have been completed. It was previously reported that 30 e-government projects have been approved and are in various stages of implementation. Projects which have been introduced include the Land Transport System, E-customs, E-registration as well as the use of SMS (Short Message Service) to renew passports and to find out examination results via mobile phones.
