Launching the event was Dato Seri Paduka Eussoff Agaki Haji Ismail, the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office cum Chairman of the E-Government Leadership Forum. Also in attendance was YAM Pengiran Anak Khairul Khalil bin Pengiran Syed Haji Jaafari, Assistant Executive Officer at the Prime Minister's Office.
Awg Sa Bali bin Abas, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office cum Overall Government Chief Information Officer, said the new phase of the e-Government is expected to be carried out with better quality emphasising on citizen-centric services as its guiding principles supported by revamped e-Government organisational structure.
In the business and private sectors, one of the efforts involved the 'ease of doing business' whereby government processes will be reviewed to improve the process of applying for business licences under the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.
More services will be rolled out gradually, in addition to the e-services currently underway such as the e-Passport and Land Transport services, as well as to facilitate electric and water bill payments.
In the public service sector, the government also announced the Government Employee Management System (GEMS), the human resource management system to facilitate the management of government employees and enhance employees' administration productivity. The government of Brunei Darussalam has about 45,000 employees.
Touching on positive developments in the e-Government projects, Awg Sa Bali said so far, since the formation of the e-Government Leadership Forum (EGLF), 30 e-government projects have been approved and are in various stages of implementation. Since the start of the e-Government in 2000, the government has already completed over 100 projects.
In launching the e-Government Strategic Plan 2009-2014, the government has identified five key strategic priorities; the ICT HR capacity building for the government, ICT governance, ICT security, government integration programmes and the e-services rollout, in the hope that these thrusts will increase the government's productivity, and in turn will benefit the general public and the industry as a whole.
In conjunction with the launching of the e-Government Strategic Plan 2009-2014, an e-Government exhibition will be held at the Atrium Concourse, The Mall, Gadong from June 12-14 that aims to promote e-government and its services to the public.
