The Enforcement Section of the Immigration and National Registration Department has gone hi-tech with the launching of its Mobile PC yesterday that can trace dubious travel documents or KPP holders during raids or inspections.

This was one of the three products launched yesterday in the department's efforts to enhance the quality of its services to the public and to empower its law enforcement via info-communication technology.

The launching of SMS services for e-Passport, Visa and Passes Application and Mobile PC for Enforcement was attended by Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Adanan, at its headquarters in Jln Menteri Besar.

The Mobile PC for Enforcement has the specifications that meet the requirements of the law enforcement. It is heavy duty, water resistant and a portable device.

It stores personal data of foreign workers, permanent residents and citizens for the department's record. The information is retrieved based on the latest data from the smart card system and border system control.

The enforcement officers will use the system should a person fail to show his/her travel document or KPP during raids or inspections. The system is capable of tracing the authenticity of the dubious KPP holder and capable to detect his/her dubious residing status through their finger print data.

The Mobile PC system is intended to enhance efforts by the department through its enforcement section in tackling immigration violators in the country.

Meanwhile, the SMS services for e-Passport is a system to facilitate the department's services to the public in line with the current technology. It enables every travel document applicant, especially those applying for e-Passports, to be informed through SMS when their passports are ready for collection.

The SMS gateway technology will relay information on the date of collection. The applicants only need to jot down their mobile phone numbers in the forms.

The Client's Charter for the department states that passports will be ready in three working days. However, if the printing process runs smoothly, the passports could be ready in less than three days.

This service is a follow-up to the one previously offered by the department, which is the migration from the machine-readable passport to biometric (e-Passport) launched in 2008.

Others include the utilisation of e-Gate for Brunei citizens passing through the international airport. The department continues to enhance its services for the public in line with its vision "Towards Dynamic and Credible Service".

The Visa and Passes Application is a system used by the Foreign Workers Division and Visit Pass & Diplomatic Division.

The launching of the Visa and Passes Application system is a follow up to the existing border control system used at control posts since 1994.

With the launch of the new system, the department is moving a step ahead in its effort to streamline the application systems that exist such as border control and smart identity card system.

Not only will the system create networking between the headquarters and its branches across four districts, but also to other departments that require such information. All these contribute to the nation's aspiration towards e-Government.

Also present during the launch were Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Dewa Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awg Hj Dani, members of the Legislative Council, permanent secretaries and deputy permanent secretaries at the ministry.
