The e-Government project is implemented to ensure that the public and business communities will be able to receive efficient and effective service from the government and at the same time, enable the development and the growth of the economy. This was stated in a keynote address by the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Dato Awang Haji Hazair who is also the chairman of the e-Government Programme Executive Committee, at the preparatory seminar for the implementation of e-Government projects yesterday.

He said it is the objective of His Majesty's government through the e-Government, which can give service and governance process on line, to create a civil service which is more efficient, effective and responsive.

It is also hoped that the programme will serve as a catalyst to the country's development while introducing a work culture that is more effective and productive through the paperless administration.

Dato Haji Hazair underscored updating the work process and procedure system as one of the important aspects in the implementation of the e-government programme.

This, he said, is to avoid work pile-up and would therefore help speed up the decision-making process.

This includes work involving communications between ministries and departments and the public, the business community, other government agencies or staff of the public service.

Dato Haji Hazair went on to say that in carrying out the e-government projects, the public services should be dynamic and exposed to the current environment so as to be able to bring about a paradigm shift and a change in mental outlook as well a positive attitude in facing the current era of modernisation and globalisation.

The seminar was a follow-up to the contractual signing between His Majesty's government and Accenture Private Limited for the consultancy services in formulation of a comprehensive government and ministerial information system.

This includes the IT implementation workshop and the development of the ministerial information system and information technology plan in every ministry. The contract signed last month is worth $4.7 million.
