Another e-Islam information kiosk was launched on Saturday at the Departure Hall, Brunei International Airport, one of the 18 strategic locations selected by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to implement the programme.

The kiosks, which uses up-to-date information technology, is part of the $40.69 million budget for 12 egovernment projects implemented by the ministry in its drive to go high-tech.

Out of the 12 projects, the e-Islam Information Kiosk is one of eight projects that will linkthe Ministry of Religious Affairs with the public. The others include Zakat Management System, i-Dirasah, i-Masjid and SisMI Phase II.

The kiosks are located in 18 areas including the two state mosques - Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque in the capital and Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kg Kiarong - as well as major mosques in all the four districts, including Mohammad Bolkiah Mosque in Kg Serusop;`Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Mosque in Kg Jerudong, Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque in Kg Sengkurong, Perpindahan Lambak Kanan Mosque in Lambak, Setia Ali Mosque in Pekan Muara, Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Tutong, Mohammad Salleh Mosque in Temburong, Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque Kuala Belait and Pekan Seria Mosque in Seria.

The kiosks are also be located at several government premises such as the Brunei International Airport, Universiti Brunei Darussalam and Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital as well as at public places including the Yayasan Shopping Complex in the capital and The Mall in Gadong.

The Ministry said the airport was chosen as one of the 18 strategic locations in the country for the kiosks because it is one of the government premises that has a large number of public members present, either local or foreign.

At the launch at the Airport Saturday, Acting Assistant Director of Administration cum Head of Information Technology Centre, Awg Hj Abu Bakar bin Mohd Don, said currently the ministry is implementing e-Government programmes envisioned by the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

He clarified that several c-Government projects under the Ministry of Religious Affairs IS/IT plan will be able to be linked and utilised by the public, either by Muslims or non-Muslims.

At a launching ceremony, Director of Administration Ministry of Religious Affairs, Awg Hj Abdullah bin Hj Metassim, presented the c-Islam information kiosk and promotional documents to the Director of Civil Aviation, Awg Hj Kassim bin Hj Latip.

Some of the topics that can be accessed from the kiosks include the Ministry's e-Government networks as well as services offered by departments under the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
