In view of the business environment that had extremely been transformed due to the advanced information technology (IT) and globalisation phenomenon, a `way forward' effort by His Majesty's Government had made IT and communication as a foundation to increase management competence and service delivery through the execution of e-Government applications.

This was highlighted recently by Dato Hj Sulaiman bin Hj Ismail, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, as chief guest at this year's eighth celebration of Public Service Day in the Belait District. Dato Hj Sulaiman further noted in his speech that the completion of e-Government projects would bring a change in the way public service officials and staff deal with various parties. He therefore expressed hope that every public service individual would be attentive with the changes by equipping him or herself with positive attitude and thinking, and that individuals would be open to opportunities in developing themselves and sharpening their competencies.

Meanwhile the Acting Belait District Officer, Awg Hj Mohamad binAbd Rahman in his welcoming remarks stated that Public Service Day is celebrated annually to pay their respects and to express gratitude to Public Service officials and staff throughout the country, adding that the Public Service is considered the main moving generator towards the development and progress of the country.

Awg Hj Mohamad in his speech also noted that in the effort to develop and strengthen cooperation, one should be knowledgeable to spread existing networking and to form strategic partners with other government agencies and private sectors to deliver service and execution of tasks and roles with convenience and more efficiency.

The function also featured an appreciation ceremony for retired Public Service personnel, and was further enlivened with side events such as an exhibition and health screening booths at the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Hall.

The highlight of the Public Service Day celebration held at Dewan Santap Kuala Belait yesterday morning was the presentation of retirement certificates to 59 retired Public Service officials in the District by the chief guest.

The ceremony also included the reading of the Public Service Day Oath, a choir performance as well as a poetic recital by Dyg Hjh Julia Chee.
