Parliamentary secretary Edward Zammit Lewis said the government believes that ICT has a central role which can lead to the expansion of many sectors of the economy through innovative processes, products and services.
He was speaking at the opening of the Microsoft ICT Career Days at the Microsoft Innovation Centre - Sky Parks in Luqa.
ICT contributes an average of five per cent to the gross domestic product, which is one of the highest in the EU, Dr Zammit Lewis said, and they would encourage more young people to specialise in their ICT subjects.
For companies to create innovative products, they needed to have particular abilities which often need to be advanced. The government will be supporting policies promoting ICT.
