The Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) in collaboration with the Ministry for Infrastructure, Transport and Communication (MITC) has launched the Student Placement Programme for employers seeking temporary additional ICT and ICT-related human resources. The Student Placement Programme this year has been significantly improved and made more attractive to employers.

The programme pools together a number of students wishing to find a work-attachment for the summer in which they can apply their ICT and ICT-related business knowledge and capabilities.

Over the past five years, hundreds of participating employers and students have benefited from this programme. This year, MITA and MITC have added a significant new incentive – the government will be co-financing 50 per cent of the students’ wage.

The work experience for students is intended to cover 11 weeks of meaningful ICT and ICT-related assignments, on a 30-hour week basis, for the period July − September. The rate of remuneration is of €5.31/hour – 50 per cent of which will be paid by the government in order to encourage more employers – from different sectors to take advantage of and participate in the programme. Students can fulfil a variety of roles within both ICT-intensive workplaces as well as other business-related environments.

The Student Placement Programme is considered an important measure alongside other MITA Human Capital policy actions to address the talent requirements demanded by the industry. The programme provides an active platform where students can interact with employers from different sectors – ICT producing as well as ICT using – thus providing students with invaluable experience.

Employers participating in the programme will be boosting the employability and work-readiness of the students with this immersive workplace formation opportunity. The programme is intended to align students’ expectations and understanding of a workplace with the real professional world.

Employers wishing to participate in this programme should send an e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. MITA will seek to match the demand against supply on the basis of the employers’ requirements and will send participating employers a list of candidates together with CVs and unofficial transcripts (where available). Employers can then conduct interviews with the students and select the ones they wish to engage. Employers are urged to apply before 25 June.

Students following an ICT or ICT-related course at university, MCAST or a private training provider, can apply for a summer placement by Monday 18 June. Student applications are only accepted online through an electronic form available from www.mita.gov.mt/spp.

Further information on this programme for both employers and students is available from www.mita.gov.mt/spp.
