The healthy living website launched by the health ministry as a 24/7 reference point with professional help and advice registered over 38,000 hits in a few months.

The Healthy Living Portal, https://ehealth.gov.mt/healthportal/healthyliving/home.aspx, was created by the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate at the end of 2011 to grant citizens access to reliable information for a healthier lifestyle.

Information is available for all age groups, from babies, to children, adults and elderly people. One of the major lifestyle changes required by many people is in their diet. Many people know what they should eat and what constitutes a healthy diet since information is available from various sources, yet local surveys show that many are still making unhealthy choices. One reason is that some find it difficult to prepare a nutritionally balanced meal for the whole family in a short time.

The portal also provides tips on how to quit smoking and how to deal with alcohol problems. Other topics include skin and body care, sexual health, emotional health and nutrition.

For further free advice and support, contact the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate on 2326 6000.
