The Minister for Health, Joe Cassar, this afternoon launched a new e-government service called ‘MY Health.’

Through this service patients will be able to access their own medical records by using the appropriate e-id and password, the patient can then permit access to this information by their chosen doctor.

The Health Minister said that the service was another important step in the history of the health services in Malta. ‘MY Health’ would strengthen the relationship between doctors, patients and hosptials.

The Minister thanked all those involved in the project, he gave particular thanks to MITA for its involvement in ,MY Health., “The project was completed within one year with an investment of €350,000,” the Minister said.

Dr Hugo Agius Muscat, the National ehealth coordinator, said the first step was to encourage patients to register for their e-id, go onto the site and from there select a doctor from a list of licensed doctors. The patient can then give permission to a chosen doctor or doctors, to gain access to their medical records.

The site, www.myhealth.gov will be available as from the 31st of January. Dr Agius Muscat said that the first documents to be made available will be Hospital Case Summaries (discharge letters), these will be followed by lab test results, medical imaging and also any information that is related to medicines which may be collected under the Pharmacy of Your Choice Scheme.

The final phase of the project will be appoinments details for hospitals and health centres. The entire process is expected to take a few months to be finalised
