The alliance was announced by IT Minister Austin Gatt who said that the government's ultimate target is for Malta to be the leading European country in the provision of e-government services. It is currently second.
Dr Gatt said the government wanted Malta to be first not only in the number of e-government services it provided, but also in their sophistication.
He said the purpose behind the setting up of the alliance was to avoid the lengthy process of issuing a call for tender for the development of each e-government service. The companies which had replied to the call to join the alliance would now together be responsible for the creation of the services.
