The government has launched a scheme whereby families can obtain Broadband Internet for €3 (Lm 1.29) a month. The scheme is being subsidized by the government following agreements reached with various Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

Investments and IT Minister Austin Gatt said that the government wants all families to access electronic services offered by the eGovernment in the future such as sales of products and services online, online banking and e-learning.

The scheme is aimed for 5,000 families who do not own broadband at home.

Registration can be done on Saturday 26th January during an activity at Merchant Street Valletta. In Gozo, registration will take place on Sunday 27th. All interested persons should present their I.D.card.

Upon registration and verification, applicants will be given a one-year voucher.

The ISPS involved are Go plc, Melitanet Ltd, Melita Cable plc, Nextweb Ltd, Vodafone Malta Ltd, Waldonet Ltd and Webwaves Ltd.
