The Minister for Justice and Local Government, Dr. Austin Gatt, launched the Local Enforcement System, another service in the e-government initiative. It is available at www.les.gov.mt. This service provides a facility to pay fines online and get information about fines and the local justice system. It bring together various public sectors, including the Licensing Department, Local Councils, and the law enforcement at the local level, better known to the public through the Local Wardens.

Minister Gatt said that the government is on track on his promise to have almost 90% of his services on-line soon. He said he believes Malta's adoption of information technology will not only make it the best among EU candidate countries but in certain aspects also better than some EU member states.

At the launch, he announced that Local Councils will soon provide computer centres for residents and every citizen will have an e-mail box free of charge.
