To achieve government’s ambitious target, private sector expected to invest aggressively in broadband roll-out.

Indonesia’s government has set a target for of 70 per cent of urban households, and 100 per cent of urban office buildings, to have broadband access in the next four years. In the same period mobile broadband in urban areas is targeted to hit 100 per cent.

Tifatul Sembiring, a member of the House of Representatives and previously Minister of Information and Communications, said that newly inaugurated President Joko Widodo had discussed the plans with BAPPENAS, the National Development Planning Board.

State-owned Telkom has committed to spending Rp 45 trillion (US$3.7 billion) in 2015 to support the government’s five-year broadband plan - a threefold increase on this year’s investment.
