The city administration of Jakarta and the Government Procurement Regulatory Agency launched an e-catalog system for the procurement of heavy equipment in a bid to cut red tape in government institutions.

According to Deputy Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, the e-catalog system aims to remove redundant and inefficient procurement processes.

“By having the new system in place, we can simplify the bureaucratic procurement processes and improve transparency in our dealings with contractors and suppliers,” he said.

Ahok revealed that the e-catalog system was developed for the procurement of heavy equipment because the development of critical public infrastructures such as roads and buildings are often delayed because of red tape.

“Our programmes under flood mitigation for example, rely on the procurement of good quality heavy equipment to ensure we can prevent significant damages in property and loss of lives during natural calamities.”

He added that apart from simplifying the procurement process, the e-catalog system can help the city government efficiently monitor and track corruption.
