Minister of Communications Gabriel Sandu presented to the director with the Information Society and Media Directorate General of the European Commission Florin Lupescu Romania’s plans for a Strategy for Information Society Development and the evolution of the IT and C sector in Romania, with accent on MCSI projects in fields as eGovernance, eHealth or eInclusion.

During the talks with the European official, Sandu noted that MCSI is to focus on the information society and the development of this field is to be implemented through the coordination of three main guidelines: services, infrastructure and finance.

First of all, MCSI is to lay the accent on the development of the content, encouragement of utilization and its adaptation at the local level in line with the requirements of various users’ categories and the zone specificity. At the ministry level a series of projects are worked out for the achievement of a national “e-Romania” platform, an interactive portal of the localities in Romania, including components as “e-governance”, “e-administration”, “e-taxes”, “e-justice”, “e-health”, “e-tourism”, “e-education”, “e-culture”, “e-emergency”.

Another important topic was aimed at the development of the telecommunications infrastructure and especially of the broadband infrastructure. EC representative underlined that the ministry projects in the e-governance field need a well-developed telecommunications infrastructure and that the services are available to all citizens.

In this context, the Minister of Communications said that the National Broadband Strategy was already adopted by Romania’s Government and soon some other strategies as well, such as the universal service and the passing from analogue to digital, which indicate ministry preoccupation for the development of a modern telecommunications infrastructure, to allow each citizen access to the information society benefits.
