This city’s smart initiatives were highlighted at the Seoul Smart Life Week 2025 — an international event that brought together global city leaders focused on smart and sustainable urban development.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong led the city's delegation to the event organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and held from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 in Seoul, South Korea.
The mayor participated in the Mayors Forum where he delivered a talk on the theme "Bridging the Digital Divide: Digital Inclusion and AI Policy."
He highlighted the city's initiatives in digital governance and inclusive development which he said aligns with global efforts to shape the future of smart cities.
The city's participation followed its recognition last year as the Gold Award recipient in the Human-Centricity category of the Seoul Smart City Prize Ceremony.
The city was selected from 280 global entries for its digital health records system, telemedicine services, and initiatives aimed at equitable health protection.
At this year’s event, Magalong was invited to take the stage to honor the new set of awardees, a moment that also underscored Baguio’s role in inspiring other cities to adopt human-centered innovation in urban governance.
The mayor was also named one of seven finalists for the Leadership Award 2025 of the Seoul Smart City Prize. This award recognizes outstanding city leaders who drive innovation, inclusivity and sustainability in urban development.
The mayor said the Summer Capital will continue to work on becoming a model for digital and human-centered urban governance behind its vision to become a livable, inclusive and creative city by 2043.
