The Muntinlupa City government held the groundbreaking ceremony to upgrade the facilities at the police headquarters as part of its smart city plan.

Mayor Ruffy Biazon led the groundbreaking ceremony at the Philippine National Police-Muntinlupa headquarters in Barangay Tunasan.

According to the World Economic Forum, “a smart city is one that uses technology to efficiently engage citizens and meet their needs.”

The new facilities at the police headquarters will feature advanced technologies to help deter or minimize crimes.

“We want to support our police force so they can do their job effectively and as part of our goal to be a smart city. That is why our Muntinlupa Police should also be a SMART police—snappy, modern, able, has rapid response, and technologically-oriented," said Biazon.

Among the plans is the completion of a central command center that will link to the city's CCTV network and enable the local police to respond more quickly and efficiently.

Other improvements that will be implemented are a modern conference room, Kabalikat ‘98 multi-purpose lobby, and a new office for the chief of police.

"We are very happy with the new facilities for the headquarters which will include tools and equipment that keep up with the advancement of technology. After all, being SMART is not only about the equipment, but more importantly, about how we do our work. We are working towards enhancing the law enforcement in our city, which is why we will continue to improve the means to do this task," added Biazon.

The Muntinlupa Police are now headed by its new acting chief of police, Col. Robert Domingo.
