Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, will officially open the e-Government Centre of Excellence for Sri Lanka today.

The Centre, the first of its kind in the country, is born out of a true public private partnership between the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA), Oracle Corporation Singapore Pte Ltd, PC House and Millennium Information Technologies on behalf of Sun Microsystems and Cisco Systems. The establishment of the e-Government Centre of Excellence is a key milestone in the 'e-Sri Lanka' roadmap and in Sri Lanka's journey towards enabling efficient, effective and transparent governance.

The Centre will showcase best practice in e-governance, successful strategies and solutions from around the world, raise awareness and build the capacity of public sector to make e-government a reality. It will also demonstrate the enormous potential of public private partnerships in the area of e-Government.

The Centre is located on the third floor at SLIDA, the leading institution for government training and capacity building. Software technology and e-Government applications will be showcased and demonstrated by Oracle Corporation Singapore Pte Ltd, an established world leader in e-Government solutions.

The other principal partners, Sun Microsystems, Cisco Systems, Millennium Information Technologies (MIT) and PC House bring into the partnership software and hardware technology but more importantly vast experience and expertise, gained both locally and abroad.

ICTA, under the leadership of the Prime Minister's Office, will take the running of the Centre under its wing and synchronise the Centre's activities, including skills development, with its own Human Resource Capacity Building Programme for Government, under 'e-Sri Lanka'.
