The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) and the Department of Motor Traffic are undertaking efforts to extend the automated service of issuing vehicle revenue licenses to the southern province, as a response to a growing demand for the solution.

The eRevenue Licence is a web-based Motor Vehicle Revenue License issuance system under the ICT Agency’s Lanka Gate Project. It enables the Department of Motor Traffic to have an efficient and centralised way of managing and storing license renewal records.

In addition, the system’s real-time data retrieval feature allows officers to efficiently validate vehicle insurance and the emission certificates allowing them to identify certain irregularities once they occur.

The system was implemented as a pilot project at the Western Province-Department of Motor Traffic at Kaduwela, Katana and Panadura Divisional Secretariats in 2009, which allowed any person with a registered vehicle in the Western Province to renew their licence from any of the three district offices.

According to the ICTA, in 2012 alone, about 500,000 revenue licences were issued in the Western Province under eRevenue licence project.
