The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka will be introducing a voice portal this year as part of its efforts to increase citizen’s access to government services through the use of mobile phones.

“As the majority of people throughout the country use mobile phones, it would be an advantage and convenient to acquire the mobile service,” ICTA Chief Executive Officer, Reshan Dewapura said in an official statement.

According to PCMAG.com encyclopaedia, a voice portal is an advanced speech recognition technology which features an Interactive Voice Response front end that allows users to gain access to specialised audio services. With the portal in place, citizens can request for copies of important documents such as birth or marriage certificates and have it delivered to their address.

Furthermore, users can leverage the portal to seek more information about key government services.
