The project is expected to enhance Sri Lanka’s border security by strengthening its capacity to collect, analyse and share immigration intelligence.
“The Interpol database services will be integrated with Sri Lanka’s immigration information system through the National Central Bureau,” said Migration Management Head Shantha Kulasekara.
Kulasekara added that with the implementation of this project, the Immigration Border Control System will be able to instantly access the Interpol database services, which has over 20 million data on lost passports and related documents.
The project was initiated by the International Organisation for Migration under the guidance of the Defence Ministry
According to a spokesperson, the project will be implemented by the end of the year.
